Employers know turn over is high, people move here thinking its like the movies or something, find out its actually NOTHING like that. Most places dont even want to look at the applications of 'transplants' who have been living here for 2 years or less. The dirty secret is the vegas job market sucks. Not only could I not get a bar job, I couldn't get ANY job. Maybe other redditors experience will vary, but I was a bartender in Chicago before I moved. I tried for months and months to get a job here before I moved. You're basically a glorified adult sitter. The next week your working 6, all at different times. I hated the hours, you're never going to celebrate a holiday, you're going to be working. In the end if I made $100 a night in tips I was happy. I made good money at first, then they tightened the machines so the 'hundred dollar handshakes' were fewer and fewer. I was a bartender for Stations, one of their smaller casinos. If they do call you it will be at 10:00p wanting you for a grave shift in 2 hours. After that you're going to be on-call, which means your sitting at home staring at your phone trying to sell your possessions to pay rent. Be ready to be a barback, definatly while your going through the union school. No offense, but no one cares where/how long you have bartended. If your focus is the strip you need to join the union.
